What is a life coach?

The International Coaching Federation defines coaching in the following way: "Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Coaches help people improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives. Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has." (ICF website, 2006)

How do you and your services differ from the traditional therapist?

Coaching is not therapy, counseling or psychology. Although intervention often follows some psychological models such as behavioral theory, the actual process of coaching should not be mistaken for a therapeutic intervention. One of the most obvious differences between the two approaches is that therapy tends to focus on feelings and experiences related to past events, whereas coaching is oriented towards goal setting and encourages the client to move forward.

A therapist typically works with a dysfunctional person to get them to become functional. A coach works with a functional person to get them to become exceptional. Therapists typically work with people who need help to become emotionally healthy. A coach works with people who are already emotionally healthy to move them to magnificent levels. Coaching does not rely on past issues for achieving growth, but rather focuses on goals towards the future. Coaching is action oriented. The focus is on where the client is right now, where they want to be next, and how to get them there. How can I work with you if I live far from your office?

What do you find that your clients most need or ask for, and why?

Clients have one thing in common: they are successful, resourceful, and intelligent people who want to get more out of their lives.

My clients want support in setting and achieving goals in specific aspects of their lives or business, such as relationships, communication, school and/or work. I coach successful people interested in living extraordinary lives. They want more success, more results and more alignment with their thoughts and goals.

Coaching encourages clients to set goals they really want. It asks them to do more than they may have done on their own. It helps them focus in order to produce results more quickly and it provides them with the tools, support, resources and structure they need to accomplish more.

What do you do, specifically?

As a Life Coach I help my clients get their lives back on track and empower them to learn more about themselves and to fully understand and appreciate their true potential. I will help my clients rediscover their dreams and goals. I will also help them identify the obstacles and challenges in their lives that may be preventing them from developing successful relationships, finding that perfect job and/or reaching their dreams.

I provide a variety of services all built around my depth of experience working with individuals, couples, groups and in the business sector with both large and small companies to help improve human performance and achieve personal and business objectives. These services are built around my strengths and passions.

Life Coaching works best when you have clear goals based on your needs and values. If you're not sure what your goals should be, we can discuss them during our sessions.

Who accesses your services?

I work with students, housewives, corporate administrators, teachers, lawyers, business leaders and so on. Anyone interested in enhancing their professional and/or personal lives and willing to make a commit to growth. I work with small and large businesses and corporations, too. I am available to help relationships develop and leaders learn the skills they need to make a difference.

What should someone expect from working with you?

They should expect to discover and understand who they are. They should expect to identify and clarify what they want most and to create and develop strategies to achieve their goals.

The client will get a motivated, resourceful, nonjudgmental and honest professional who will help them achieve their goals. Coaching is powerful because the goals and strategies are integrated with the person. That is, because the goals are coming directly from the client the likelihood of achieving them is greater.

Life coaching, in general, has become much more common? To what do you attribute the popularity?

People and businesses are seeing results. According to recent surveys there is a relationship between the extent to which individuals receive coaching and their abilities in terms of relationships, leadership, and work success, in general. Coaching is quickly becoming one of the leading tools that successful people use to move forward in their lives. Coaching creates a way for clients to have more balance, intimacy, energy, financial success, focus and action in all areas of life.

What would you say to someone who is "skeptical" about what you do?

It really works. Read my testimonials. For example, "David is an incredibly energetic and considerate coach who not only listens but also offers thoughts and suggestions which help lead you to action. If you are ready to get on with your business or life David will help." Coaching clients really do see the results of their efforts quite quickly. I would recommend they come in for a free discovery session.
