Your life is yours to create.

I think many people today have lost the idea that they can live life passionately or, as they say, to the fullest.

How can you live your life to the fullest? You can start by taking responsibility for your life. And then take responsibility for who you are. You have the innate ability to make something of yourself and to really feel good about life. It’s always our decision who we are.

Secondly, you can set an example. Believe that what you do makes a difference. Understand that you have the power to choose. Choices are available to us all day long yet many people let life happen to them instead of making choices that they truly want. Realize that there are consequences for your choices and the ensuing actions. This is personal responsibility.

Many people live lives as a victim. They choose to blame, judge and criticize. This passive and aggressive behavior leaves them powerless and with no real personal control.

When you assume personal responsibility you are acting in an assertive way and you are creating accountability for yourself. When you respond to life rather than react to it you can choose to accept the consequences that follow. When you simply react to events, people and things that come your way you are more likely to get angry and blame others when things don’t go right.

There is a lot of talk, too, about people being victims of society or being the result of forces outside their control. I still believe you can create a life you want and deserve. When “life happens to you,” consider what you did or didn’t do just before. If you let life happen, that is, if you were passive and did nothing, you really have no right to complain. If you created the event or situation then it was your choice, so deal with it and move on.

There are many opportunities and choices presented to us each day and they all come with responsibility. This may be why so many people choose not to choose. It’s easier to just let life happen and to roll with the punches. After all, you’re certain to find comfort for your misery from one of the many others that live similar lives.

When you decide to live life fully and with real personal meaning you will begin to change. Personal responsibility is work, work is action and action leads to change.

The choice is yours. This life is yours. Live your life for a change
