Waking up

Most people are asleep. We’re born asleep, live our lives asleep, get married in our sleep, have families in our sleep, and then die in our sleep. Most people never really learn to recognize all of the happiness, success and love that really is available to them.

Some people don’t wake up because waking up can be uncomfortable and unpleasant. When you are asleep, all is well. But to be awaked is annoying and irritating. Sometimes the unfortunate things in our lives wake us up. But some people can sleep through anything. They just never wake up. They never realize that there may be another or better way of living.

While the results of personal and/or professional suffering are two ways of waking up you can also choose to wake up by taking time to listen to your truth(s). To actually consider new possibilities and to create an attitude of openness to your life is important if you want to really wake up.

Because I nor anyone else can tell you your truth you need to challenge your beliefs and the belief system that makes you unhappy or feeling unsatisfied. You need to unlearn much of what you have been taught. I have spoken many times about the idea of thinking differently about yourselves and seeing things for the first time. To truly wake up and learn to see your life and to understand your truths you will have to be to be open to the possibility that much of what you know about yourself is now actually incorrect.

Most people listen so that they can fit it and be accepted or to confirm what they already know. But if what you know is wrong why would you want to reaffirm untruths? Why not listen to learn something new about yourself? Why not become an observer of yourself and see what is true about you? I think most people don’t want to hear their truths because it will mean they have to admit they were wrong all this time.

But if we choose to trust our truth, that is, have faith in ourselves, we create an openness to our truth, no matter what happens and no matter where it leads. Your beliefs may have given you false security, but faith gives you no security. With faith you don’t know what may happen or when.

It’s your life, though, why not take a risk with yourself and take a closer look at your truths. When you are ready to understand yourself and to challenge your old belief systems you are actually ready to listen to yourself and you are moving towards waking up. You face resistance to this new behavior, after all you have been asleep for a long time and it may have been really comfortable.
